In India after the dreadful end of Mughal Empire in 1857 the very first Islamic intellectual reformist revolution rose in the North Indian town of Deoband. Hujjat al-Islam al-Imam Muhammad Qasim Nanawtawi established Darul Uloom Deoband on May 30, 1866. Those who helped him in his mission were Haji Abid Husain and Imam Rabbani Rashid Ahmad Gangohi and others.
