The neighbourhood of Mafalala is at the gates of the Maputo cement city. Its streets are still made o reddish earth and life continues to be lived on the ground floor, in backyard where neighbours come together. In fact, it was always this informality that made up the neighbourhood and its people. It was thanks to this that two presidents, a prime minister, artists, poets and sportsmen lived there.
