Eddie Chu makes assemblage paintings that incorporate a wide range of process, including sprays, fabrics, stencils, and computers. His pictures are strange constructions–of both mechanical and handmade means–that exist between painterliness and technology, or intuition and will. These pictures challenge ideas around artistic intuition by presenting heavy-layers of process, resulting in compositions seemingly found by happenstance, rather than the predetermination of an ordered plan.
