Elsie Carlisle (1896-1977) was an English dance band singer of the 1920s-1940s. For fifteen years she was a mainstay of British radio and was famous for her work with Ambrose and His Orchestra, along with such other band leaders as Arthur Lally and Ray Starita. Her duets with Sam Browne in the 1930s are particularly memorable. She also had a vast solo output. In all, she made over 330 recordings, appeared in film, and was a popular stage actress.
