The vision: In 20-40 years, scientists will be able to deliver any desired molecule within a timeframe useful to the end-user, via safe, economically viable and sustainable processes. Key barriers: making synthesis predictable, developing smart synthesis by design and providing a sustainable synthesis for a sustainable future. We need: a multi-disciplinary community to tackle the Grand Challenge and transform synthesis for maximum economic, academic, industrial and societal impact.
