David Gutierrez is a Los Angeles based artist who received a BA from UC Irvine, and an MFA from CalArts. David works with issues of sex and gender through the lens of science. For over a century, scientists and doctors have constructed sex and gender and surgically removed all variations beyond the binary. By conflating historical medical icons with contemporary practices and ideas, David allows for a space to consider the harmful coping mechanisms for encounters of "medical anomalies".
