Joan Ure was the pen name of Elizabeth Thoms Clark, Scottish poet and playwright, born Elizabeth (Betty) Carswell in Tyneside, of Scottish parents who moved to Glasgow. A poem by Joan was voted by members of the public as one of the runners-up for the Scottish Parliament's Canongate Wall Project to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Holyrood Parliament.
