We believe aspects of the current approach to sex offenders seriously undermine justice, our family units and make our society unsafe. We support laws that target violent acts, not whole classes of people. We believe in rehabilitative methods rather than vindictive punishment meant to cause shame to offenders and their family members. The current laws stigmatize someone as a “sex offender” in New Jersey do not distinguish the differences in offenses like consenting teenagers and serial rapists.
