Dr. Paduru Gururaja Bhat was a researcher extraordinaire of Tulu history and culture. He has been aptly called "Father of South Kanara Archaeology" because of his unparalleled contributions in the fields of history, archaeology, numismatics, epigraphy, sociology and related sciences regarding his native region of coastal Karnataka district of South Kanara.
