It allows parents to meet parents living close to them who may already be connected to them through work, or kids' schools or other sports activities kids partake in. It encourages parents to know other parents in their neighborhood rather than creating a virtual network. It encourages playdates, forming reading clubs and look up parents interested in nanny shares, babysitters, etc so you can just share the cost.
